My stepdad had a book which showed what the boot picture looked like, very much like a GEM dialog box with a line drawing of an SF314 (354? Single sided) drive and a floppy disk near it, and text reading 'Please insert your TOS floppy disk' or somesuch, but I don't have a clear image of what it looked like.
Oh, I have an external Cumana drive that I always used as B: on me 1.62 STE, and my stepdad lent me his STM (like yours, ish) with 2.06 to play about with (I wanted a 2.06 upgrade and I wanted to evaluate it first) and I used my external drive on that machine, worked fine and I didn't have to change any jumpers or nuthin'.
