Upgrading a 520 ST is never cheap and always involves extensive soldering.
Put motherboard in old PC case:
Only possible with large big-tower cases since the ST's mobo is quite large, you will most probably also have to modify the PC's case backside.
Externalise Keyboard:
Easy to do by just soldering more cables to it. You can also produce an adaptor to connect a MegaST keyboard easily.
Connecting a PS/2 keyboard will require a more difficult adapter.
SCSI drives:
Easy to do buy buying a host-adapter. You get them used (ICD, Hard&Soft etc) or new (Link'97). Not really cheap, but very reliable.
Floppy upgrade:
You will (most probably) require a new disk-controller, DMA-controller, a 16 MHz and should also upgrade to TOS 2.06. Involves soldering and specialized hardware.
Anything else:
Well, buy a second-hand Falcon ? That will have 1.44 MB diskdrive, 4 MB RAM, an internal harddisk, a SCSI hostadapter AND gives you a lot more.
Unless you're a fan of doing hardware mods, that's the way i'd do it.
