From what I have read, I kind of get it I think, is it along the lines of;
I chip is plugged into a BUS (to the RAM) on the address lines, it is then programmed with address(es). When the address is trigered by a CPU command (say a read), the address is pushed to the memory which activates the chip and then the info is pushed down the data lines back to the CPU.
This is NOT DMA yes? i.e. the CPU has to process the data to and from memory/devices?
I do not know about the chip select or why it should take up more memory than is required (all sounds confusing).
Thats my overview of it, anyone feel free to educate me.
