Maybe you already know what I'm going to say, but just in case...

You say that you work on Linux, and you don't have an Atari platform to develop with.
Then you may be interested in ARAnyM:
http://aranym.sourceforge.net/

They take special care about development tools. They gave great efforts so that PureC can work, and they think about GNU tools usage, for example.

ARAnyM is well functional now.
