The only thing that I can contribute is that there are two different kind of paddles.... Ther are driving paddles and "raquet" paddles. Driving paddles let you steer from left 90 degrees to right 90 degrees (or a flat horizon) and "raquet" paddle let you
"steer" less than that...reason is in a game like Breakout, you don't need to steer as far, just back and forth...why they made two different sets, I'll never figure out,..but you can tell by the emblem on the paddles, (if the stickers haven't come off yet) Your game sounds like a anomaly, you should hang on to it....never heard of that,...you should try to get on Atariage.com's dicussion board,...there are some original members of Atari there that could help you,...they have answered some of my questions before,...and it's the kind of stuff only an "insider" would know.
