Okey... you seem to be really bothered about this. It'd be really cool if Atari would resurrect, but it is *not* vital for the games industry at all. New ideas and concepts will change the industry, whoever comes up with them is not really important. Would the ST (for example) have been a bad machine if it was made by IBM (for example) instead of Atari? No, the ST was/is a great piece of hardware, the label on the casing cannot change that. And what on earth is wrong about Japan? You can't blame them for making as much money as they possibly can- that's what society is all about these days. Yes, they're making a lot of money on ideas that came from Atari. Why? Because Atari was too stupid to make money from it themselves, that's why! You can't possibly blame the Japanese, it's like expecting people not to pick up 100$ bills if they're lying on the street. And neither can you blame Americans for buying Japanese consoles. Face it, the marketsituation made the choice easy. It should have been an easy job to make the Jaguar a hit. But Atari failed where the Japanese had their finest hour: third-party support. A games developer doesn't like to work on a platform where proper documentation and support from the manufacturer are virtually unheard of.
Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers that Atari will resurrect one day. But a revolution from a different, unexpected side would be very welcome too. Atari made some of the greatest hardware ever, perfectly functional for my needs, but those days are gone. Maybe not for good? Let's hope so. But not through Hasbro please...
