You can use a simple Terminal program, there was a number of them around and I can not remember a single one (I think the one I used was called Z-Term because it supported z-modem I think).
All you need to do then is use Hyper Terminal or somthing on the PC.
Why do you want to use Serial as it will be much slower???
I do not know were you could find any of these programs but I may have some around somewere.
