It sure does work, I used to use IDE HD and CD ROM on my STE that had IDE board, all inside a PC tower case. Spin worked great for me, it's free. ExtenDOS has support for CD writers and that is commercial software. And as Peter said, the Falcon IDE is not buffered at all, and yes it does cause problems with long leads :) Especially if you have a bus accelerator. I was going to make a buffer board with two 245 buffers but I ended up using a real short lead and only a hard drive on IDE.
