Hi Dennis.
There was a Amiga emulator that did a perfect imitation of an Amiga. It showed the white hand holding the blue disk, and it crashed.. just as my Amiga did :)
*grin*
Nah... there's no point in Emulating an Amiga on an Atari (and vice versa).
Converting games has been done before. Chaos Engine for example. But the Atari ST is a old system, the STe is better, but it is quite hopeless making superduper Quake thingies for it. When I compared Civilization on Atari and Amiga, I found that the difference came in sound and speed. The Amiga (500 that is) has quite capable sound system, and therefore better sound in Civ, but the Atari was much faster, the animations went smooth, as opposed to the A500 where it flickered alot.
When it comes to 3DFx cards, it's no use on your ST. In theory, a Falcon 030 with the new PCI adaptor from Cortex, and a better processor, could handle a 3dfx card.
There is however a alternative to AmigaOS and TOS. Linux. Although a Amiga 1200 with co processor, or a Atari with 030 processor is required, it does shed new light on the game scene. But running Quake on a unaccelerated Falcon030 isn't any fun. The A1200 won't even run Quake unless accelerated. So for any gaming to be done under linux, a good processor is a must. There are 3dfx drivers available for Linux, and it might be possible to get one working with a PCI adaptor on an Atari.
