Unfortunately the Atari ST has not seen a great deal of action over recent years when it comes to new game releases.
The Atari ST and Amiga are similar machines, the Amiga came out a few years after the Atari and has a few bits and pieces that make it a bit higher spec but there are many reasons why this could be debated. To cut a long story very short NO you can not use the Amiga games on the ST, you will probably not even be able to use those games on the early Amigas around at the time of the ST.
Both Commodore and Atari went on to make faster and better machines, but Amiga kept the Amiga name and Atari got rid of the ST name (for reasons that are beyond this thread).
There was still a number of VERY good games done for the ST (some even for the STE but that depends n what your system is, just look at the badge), your best bet is to go to the LGD web site
http://lgd.fatal-design.com/
They have over 2000 games available for download, I personally would recommend Xenon 2, Carrier Command, Lemmings, Elite 2 (Frontier or something), Blood Money. I think many people will also want to put just a few of there favourites down here, oh and R-type (there is another called X-Types I think which is the same sort of thing and is good too).
The site is a bit busy at present (I think due to the updates that they have just done), so be patient and keep trying.
You will also need to download the MAKEDISK file from the web site. What basically happens is you download a zip file of the game you want, these often have a few games on as they are hacked games menus and they would not be able to pass over the Internet if they were originals (you will see). Unzip the file on the PC and then use MAKEDISK to convert it to an ST disk.
The is sometime a few new games released and more often demos, I believe there is someone working on a Worms clone and I myself am working on a Dune 2 clone style game.
You should be able to have fun with the above games as they were made back when “game-play” was the point of the game you were playing.
Hope this has helped.
