Aren't there programs which let you still edit and save the picture in 16.7million colours, but it just isn't displayed on your screen? In fact, I think there was even one program on the ST that worked in 16.7mill but obviously only displayed 16 on screen. POV rendered in 24bit colour on the ST but you could only view it in 16. I think you get the idea :o)
