Easier way is to get an RF to Coax plug adaptor (looks like a cylinder with those two little wires that screw onto the RF switchbox that you have with your Atari). Just screw the coax into the adaptor's female end, then attach the two prongs (the male ends) to the Atari switchbox. The adaptor can be had at any Radio Shack and is quite cheap.
I haven't noticed much picture degradation with this method, but then I use it on a little TV in my bedroom that isn't my primary TV-watching set.

If I am understandin you correctly, I think if you go to an electronics store such as Radio Shack-you can get a automatic tv/game switch. This plugs into the video input on the t.v. and the other end goes into the atari system. They are pretty cheap ($5) and give a better picture than the old box manual switch.
