I don't own a mega STe, but i do own several other ataris. By my knowledge the mega ste is equiped with a SCSI controller with the limitation of connecting only one scsi device (a bit strange; scsi on my TT an falcon allows the usual 7 devices).
In short: IF you have a scsi ID laying around and a 50p SCSI flatcable you can connect a HD. You woul also need a SCSI driver (AHDI if i remembered corectly om some more enhanced third party thing like HDdriver or HUSHI from the SCSI tools package from Hard&Soft)
you can esily remove the harddisk cover of you Mega STe , it's the same as with the TT, you only have to remove one screw: the one which is a little bigger than the rest (with my TT a waranty sticker was placed over it, but what the heck; waranty expired allready)
