Frankly, no.
The MegaSTE does not have a SCSI-system on its motherboard and hence it needs a SCSI hostadapter to drive any kind of SCSI peripherals.
The internal socket of the MegaSTE is just a lead-through ACSI-port so it's not, by itself, capable of running a SCSI-disk.
I recommend to buy Link'96 MegaSTE from WB Systemtechnik. It's expensive, but it's definetly the best solution. It will drive basically any drive internally (in contrast to the original Atari SCSI-hostadapter that has severe problems with any drive > 120 MB) and also allows external connections in case you want to upgrade somewhen (CD-ROM, CD-Writer, ZIP-Drive etc).
I doubt IDE is a good solution.
