It honestly sounds like a problem with the upper layer of the driver, th elower layer is working so your audio controller cna access it, but the top layer isn't picking it up. If you email me your address and what drive ID you're using I'll send you a couple of Metados/Spin/whatever setups to try out (they'll run fom the floppy, but I'll stick hard-disk installable versions on there too.....I assuem you use C: as a boot drive....)
