It's an Atari 2600 came out in 1977 and was eventually replaced by the 5200 & 7800, although the 2600 came out in a number of versions, such as a black plastic wedge called '2600 Junior'. There are loads of sites and pages on your console. The unit you have is called a six-switcher (because it has six switches) and if you were lucky enough to have an original 1977 version (unlikely) then it's more common name is a 'Heavy six'. Simply it's due to the size of the components, the thicker plastic etc and the fact it was produced & built in Sunnyvale, California. If not, then it's the far more common, lighter and less valuable 'Woody'. These were built in the Far East or Europe. If the entire unit is jet black (white Atari emblem) then it's a 'Vader' (as in Darth Vader). Which ever unit you have, they are great fun. Grab a few carts (I recommend eBay for that) and enjoy! You'll find that this Atari.Org site is full of information and informative people who will be only to glad to assist you with questions relating to the 2600. Good Luck, and welcome to Atari.
