Yes, SMD they are. Although they are known as 56001 they're usually marked something different. Mine says SSP424022QFJ33.
That's 33MHz rating on the end, QFJ for the quad flat package. Also check that the DMA has a good signal (ie clockpatch is good) as this can cause DSP problems. Another point is that it may be if the DSP is accelerated check the solder joints are good. The DSP is right near to the 32MHz oscillator, Motorola badge on top.
