Hello,
modifying a PC serial mouse to run on an Atari ST is not very wise. I know that Mario Becroft however has made an adapter to drive a PC serial mouse on an Atari ST mouse-port so you might be interested in that.
Otherwise, you can drive a PC serial mouse on the serial port of your 520 STE, you will need a 25-to-9-pin adapter and driver software that will, gently spoken, not work with every kind of software.
You can bid for mice and other gadgets on ebay i assume, there is also a bunch of retailers that have mice in stock, have a look at Pathfinder for those.
And finally, you can run Cubase on a 520 STE but if your 520 has the original 512KB, it might not be a lot of fun. Upgrading an STE to 4 MB is not hard though, slaughter an old PC for 30 pin SIMMs.
