Generally what I've found on those settings is that you pick the channel that has no local broadcast on it and switch the machine to that channel then turn the TV to that same channel.
In most cases it is either channel 3 or channel 4 one or the other should be an empty local channel (meaning nothing is broadcast over that channel)
