Subject: how about Linux + virtual box?

Im a big fan of Virtualbox, its an open source alternative to Microsoft's Virtual PC and VMware, it has better emulation performance and supports virtual USB drives, and its free and open source, and supported by Sun Microsystems.

I would install Ubuntu or your favourite Linux on your favourite brand of PC or laptop

Then install Virtual box and you can run a self booting OS, like DOS with your Atari emulation on top. Whats more, depending on RAM you can have multiple OSes running at once. :o)
