The Lynx wont turn on without a game inside.
It will recognize a game cart, because then two pins (->have a look at the layout) are connected.
First thing to check: Dirt or loose contact in the connector which prevents the game cart detection.
Second thing: Is the lynx not powering up or is it just the display which stays dark?
