If I remember correctly they have a working PPCnative OS. According to my die-hard Amiga fanatical friend they've pretty much abandoned 680x0 apps.
68k shouldn't be abandoned, people will want to be able to run their old software on the new system, but the same development can be observed on the x86 platform with old DOS and Win9x software refusing to work on the newer 2k and XP. I mean, who use archaic late 80's early 90's software on a modern PC except for those wanting to play retro games?
Most well-written apps and games should work on a newer TOS system.
I think the main problem with the Atari community is the resistance towards upgrading and lame excuses like "It's fun to optimize"
