thank you all for your responses and explanations.

i don't read german, but it seems the flag.prg prog somehow makes programs aware of the extra memory.

for example i just messed around and flag.prg asked me to select a prg.

i selected digital tracker..now digital tracker loads up xm files that brought up lack of memory errors before.

also ace midi loads up patches that came up with memory errors before 'patching' it with flag.prg.

so is this a correct assumption or is this just a coincidence?

i also ran sysinfo. sysinfo says i have 12mb (or something like that) ST ram and 0 fastram. that is the total ram with card and 4mb normal ram.

it also says i have only 3mb st ram free.

this seems strange. it has obviously detected 12mb but those extra 8mb aren't usable.
