quite strange hint with that "a" and "b" keys...
richard, if you want to boot from floppy, you have to press (and hold) ALT key -- when is harddisk already booted, you'll need to do this two times (reset+alt key, then again reset+alt key).
about the boot time -- what is it long time? 10 secs, minute? The reason may be crapiness of ST157 (really old one) or that you have enable memory test / boot delay (you can press any key to skip this).
