This is not surprising, as the mono screen is at a very different scan rate to the colour monitor. Stray noise that shows up on a monitor, is not going to appear on the colour screen.
"The ST has two different scan rates, which is why it requires two monitors. For color modes (low and medium resolution), the scan rates are 15.8KHz horizontally and 60.3Hz vertically. In monochrome mode, the rates are 31KHz horizontally and 70Hz vertically."
If you have an environmental interference problem as myself and some of the others have mentioned, changing monitor won't make any difference.
Please check the behaviour with another ST, if the problem is not present, you can rule out environmental interference as the cause, otherwise you can be left chasing a phantom cause.
If there is no problem on the other ST , you should then check then swap the PSU (Power Supply Unit) module over in the ST's and if the problem goes away you know the cause is a faulty PSU.
If the problem is still present you probably have a local environment interference problem and the next test to do is to take the ST to a location about 20km away, at a friend's house, and see if the noise disappears. If it does, you know there is a source in your local area that you are going to have to identify or put up with.
Testing two different monitors is an important test, as is testing too monitors.
