Get yourself a copy of Turbo-Basic. It's about 99.9% compatible with standard Atari Basic but there is a compiler on the disk to convert the Basic program into a sped-up version when loaded with the included runtime. As a bonus your program is protected as this action is non-reversible.

The standard POKE commands (no list, no break, etc) will not do as it's very easy to get around that by just converting the tokenized Basic code into listable ATASCII code.
