I have an Atari 1010 tape drive - I'm assuming they work about the same.
To save a Basic program to tape, press down Record and Play on the drive, and type "CSAVE" [Return].
To load a program, cue up the tape to where it starts, press down Play on the drive and type "CLOAD" [Return].
Be very patient if you have a large program (:
Also if you want to load a machine language program from tape, just cue up the tape, press down Play, and then boot up the computer while holding down the Start button.
