im about to hack an Atari CX80 trackball to work under usb on my pc,

this has been done for the ST, Amiga and Vectrex, I remember talking to someone who did it on a PC along time ago,

Ive got several very cheap and horrible Imac style usb 2 button ball mice to slaughter to do this hack,

While Im waiting for my CX80 to arrive from the ebay seller from Germany I bought it off,

can anyone tell me, should it be easy as removing the optical sensors from the mouse PCB and soldering them on to some wires either side of the wheels inside the trackball?

if I get timing issues with the ball movement too slow or fast, can any recommend a way of fine tuning, in terms of putting a resister in the right place?

My electronics experience is limited, Ive already hacked a Sega Dreamcast Arcade stick to USB which is very nice for MAME =o)
