I would suggest one of the open devices:

GP32 (limited to 8-16 bit emulation at best / 4 models were released)
GP2X (3 models were released - avoid the first issued model)
GP2X Wiz (very pocketable great OLED display)
Caanoo (Current device)
OpenPandora (Waiting list)
Dingoo A320 (Worthy under Dingux - replacement due soon)

Some of the above are only available used, but can be snapped up for a bargain.

No offence against modern convergence devices, but the ones listed above have better control layouts, for arcade games in general. The OpenPandora, is the show stopper for controls however and boasts an adequate keyboard too.

Do a google search, wiki, or try GP32X forums.
