Okay, I pulled a floppy each from two older PCs, and both happened to be (nearly identical!) Chinon drives w/jumpers for drive select! :)
Tried one in the 1040, and worked fine. I imagine I could use the other drive mech to replace the SSDD in my SF354, yes? I will play with that as well...
Not sure what might be wrong with the original internal fdd, but it just doesn't seem to read.
