 Subject: What Atari?

I am pondering to buy an Atari ST computer but unsure which one. I know next to nothing about them but want a alternative to an Amiga for once as I got some ST games hiding away somewhere. :)

My questions are simple really,

What ST should I get on a low (ish) budget? - I was thinking a 1040 of some kind.

and

How do I go about getting a hard drive working on it?
