Great! Now, it does sound like the osc died, though it probbably has now it's been hooked to 9v :) 9v is used for the opamps on the linein/line out. Thats something that could be changed to make a better sound, the powersupply to it, provided by a 7509 could have better support. Better opamps could be installed too but thats OT. Get a new oscillator and make sure that it's output clock pin doesn't touch ground, it can be easy to do that if you solder wires direct to it, remeber case of it is ground too! I have collected a huge range of oscillators off old motherboards, old graphics cards have a lot for various dot clocks.
