OK, some of my info was a little inaccurate. It was either Toshiba or Hitachi, but they did the design for the RISC cores in the TOM and JERRY chips.
The Jaguar was a beautiful machine. When I say half-arsed, I was referring to the manner of the rollout, the hardware availability, the cancellation of Virtuality, and the CD unit which had about 8 games and cost as much as the Jag did!
OK, I'm right about that. Atari designed the Amiga, Commodore designed the ST. Jay Miner was working on the Amiga chipset (Lorraine project) when he left to set up the Amiga company (group, whatever).
Tramiel brought the design for the ST with him when he bought up Atari.
