Hmm, that's strange. I went through your list one by one and was writing this big reply about how everything seems OK, yet the keyboard had bad remappings. When I got to the last one (the shortcuts), I deleted the shortcuts.dat file... and the keyboard is now fixed!!!

Thanks to your FAQ, I clearly remember trying that before, but it did not work! Why is it working now? really strange.

Oh well, thanks a lot. I can now play Space Quest :)
