Interesting to read all of this so far, I have never actually put any real though into all of this to be honest, and I probably should not throw a spanner into the works for you here, but I will do.
I have always thought that the ST was 16Bit, but could access 32bit data as 32bits
However, I have also read, that it is actually 24bits, and NOT 32bits as we keep being told it is?
I thought the TT was simply an ST that really was 32bit everything, and this gave us ( or atari ) an easier path to create its extras ( RAM / Ports / Speed? )
and the Falcon was simply an ST with lots of extras! - Of course, the extras such as Video, Sound & DSP would therefore force many memory addressign issues, and this is why many ST programs crash on it?
I know I am probebly off the cuff a little there, but thats how I originally thought it, and it sort of stuck?
Reading your notes though about it, yes, the Falcon can access a lot more RAM than 16MB, and like the ST its standard RAM may be 16MB, but 2MB is wasted isnt it, so a 16MB machine would only give 14MB and I have heard / read about Falcons using more than that, but I have NOT actually seen one in the Flesh...er...Plastic.
Like I said, I maybe should not say anything here, but I had to say my piece!
